A 45-year-old male bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Encinitas Boulevard near Cerro Street in Encinitas on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2025.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 79-year-old woman driving a Hyundai Elantra was traveling eastbound on Encinitas Boulevard when she collided with the bicyclist.
Emergency responders transported the injured bicyclist to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the collision. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
