A suspected DUI crash in Fresno County claimed the life of a 28-year-old woman and injured four others, including a child, on Saturday evening, January 4, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Floral Avenue and Willow Avenue.
A 24-year-old man driving a Toyota eastbound on Floral Avenue attempted to make a left turn onto Willow Avenue, crossing into the westbound lane and colliding head-on with a Nissan driven by a 61-year-old woman.
The Toyota’s right-front passenger, a 28-year-old woman who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. A 9-year-old girl seated in the right rear of the Toyota sustained major injuries and was hospitalized.
The Toyota’s driver and the Nissan’s driver and right-front passenger all sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center.
CHP spokesperson Mike Salas confirmed that the Toyota’s driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and will be booked into the Fresno County Jail upon release from the hospital.
