A driver was seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into the back of a semi-tractor trailer in La Jolla early Thursday morning, January 29, 2026.
According to the San Diego Police Department, officers responded at around 2:50 a.m. to reports of a collision involving a four-door Honda on North Torrey Pines Road near Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines.
Authorities stated that, after the crash, the Honda became lodged beneath the semi-trailer. The Honda driver sustained life-threatening injuries. The condition of the semi-truck driver was not immediately available.
Personnel from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department rescued the Honda driver and provided medical assistance at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert, noting that debris removal could take several hours and cause traffic impacts in the area.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
