Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Washington Street in Thousand Palms, Riverside County, on Tuesday afternoon, February 4, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. on the westbound side of I-10 and involved at least three vehicles, including two semi-trucks.
A white Toyota traveling westbound at approximately 70 mph abruptly veered right, colliding with a blue semi-truck in the #3 lane. The impact sent the Toyota into a red disabled semi-truck parked on the right shoulder. A white tire repair truck was parked in front of the disabled semi-truck.
Following the initial crash, the blue semi-truck continued moving and struck both the white repair truck and its driver, who was working on the disabled semi-truck at the time.
The driver of the Toyota and the maintenance worker were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic was heavily impacted in both directions, with a hard closure in place for nearly four hours. All lanes were reopened by 6:30 p.m.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. No further details are available at this time.
