California Highway Patrol officers responded to a collision between two commercial vehicles in the Merced area on Wednesday morning, February 4, 2026.
The crash occurred in dense fog that reduced visibility to less than 200 feet.
The CHP issued a warning about the dangers of fog, which can drastically limit reaction time, flatten depth perception, and obscure stopped traffic until it’s too late to avoid a crash.
The CHP emphasized that drivers who fail to adjust their speed or following distance are operating beyond safe conditions. High beams can worsen visibility, while low beams and slower speeds help maintain a safe stopping distance.
“Fog is not an inconvenience. It is a warning,” the CHP said. “When visibility drops, the only safe response is to change how you drive.”
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
