A 16-year-old boy was killed after crashing his electric motorcycle into a box truck on Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County, on Monday afternoon, February 9, 2026.
According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the collision at 12:15 p.m. on Highway 1 at Terrace Avenue. The teenager was found with serious injuries and rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the boy was traveling at a high rate of speed on the electric motorcycle before colliding with the truck. The motorcycle was described as an electric off-highway model without pedals.
The driver of the box truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities reported that alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
