A 36-year-old pedestrian, identified as Francisco G., was fatally struck while crossing a highway on-ramp in Merced on Monday night, February 10, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. on the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp from State Route 140.
A Merced woman driving a 2006 Ford Expedition was attempting to enter the highway when she hit the man.
Authorities reported that the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and that the area had poor lighting at the time of the crash. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. No signs of intoxication were detected.
CHP officials are investigating the incident.
