A 61-year-old woman was fatally struck on Interstate 215 in Riverside on Thursday evening, February 20, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim, identified as Stephanie V. of Riverside, was hit shortly before 8:00 p.m. on southbound I-215 near Van Buren Boulevard.
Authorities reported that a tractor-trailer or three-wheel motorcycle might have struck the woman in the No. 2 lane, causing all traffic to come to an immediate stop.
Paramedics from the Riverside Fire Department arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and pronounced the pedestrian dead on the scene.
CHP officers temporarily closed three out of four lanes for a preliminary investigation. All lanes were reopened by 10 p.m.
The reason the pedestrian was on the freeway remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
