[02-22-2025] Marin County, CA – Woman Injured After Intoxicated Driver Crashes and Shears Fire Hydrant at Lincoln Avenue and Third Street in San Rafael

A 39-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after an intoxicated driver crashed and sheared a fire hydrant at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Third Street in downtown San Rafael on Saturday morning, February 22, 2025.

According to San Rafael Police, the collision left two vehicles with major damage, including one that ended up on its side against a building. The impact also sheared a fire hydrant, causing water to shoot into nearby power lines.

The injured woman was transported to a hospital for treatment of her serious injuries. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Marcos J. of San Rafael, sustained minor injuries. He was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of intoxicated driving causing injuries, driving with a suspended license, violating probation conditions from a previous DUI case, and other offenses.

Authorities also reported that the driver allegedly ran a red light before the crash. He is being held without bail due to the probation violation.

The investigation is ongoing.
