[02-25-2026] San Diego County, CA – Two-Vehicle Crash on SR-76 Sends Car Down Embankment

A two-vehicle collision in San Diego County sent one car down a 15-foot embankment, leaving the occupants with injuries of unknown severity on Wednesday evening, February 25, 2026. 

According to California Highway Patrol dispatch logs, the crash was first reported at 6:59 p.m. on eastbound State Route 76 near Pankey Road.

Preliminary reports indicated that one of the vehicles, a Toyota Prius, went off the right side of the eastbound lanes and into a ditch. A possible SUV was also involved.

By 7:00 p.m., dispatchers noted that the driver of the Prius had exited the vehicle. Initial reports suggested a motorcycle might have been involved, but CHP logs later confirmed it was a strictly two-vehicle collision with no motorcycle present.

CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire Protection District crews were dispatched at 7:04 p.m. for a medical emergency response. The medical status of those involved remains unclear, with injuries reported as of unknown severity.

Tow trucks were requested to assist in removing the vehicles from the right shoulder and the embankment. Fire crews cleared the scene by 7:17 p.m. 

The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
