[03-12-2026] San Diego County, CA – 67-Year-Old Rider Killed in Crash with Pickup Truck on Balboa Ave.

A 67-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Balboa Avenue in San Diego‘s Kearny Mesa on Thursday morning, March 12, 2026.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash occurred around 6 a.m. when the rider of a westbound 2016 Triumph motorcycle collided with a 2025 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old man, who was traveling eastbound on Balboa Avenue near the intersection of Viewridge Avenue.

Police reported that the truck driver was turning left onto Viewridge Avenue on a green light, while the motorcycle entered the intersection against a red light and struck the truck’s front.

The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital, where he later died from severe head trauma. His name has not yet been released. The truck driver was unharmed.

Balboa Avenue was temporarily closed between Interstate 15 and Ruffin Road for at least three hours while the scene was cleared. Police confirmed that driving under the influence was not a factor in the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
