Two people were injured when their car slammed into an embankment and burst into flames on the southbound Interstate 280 in Redwood City on Tuesday evening, March 24, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m., south of Edgewood Road. The driver and a passenger were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Firefighters from the Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit responded to find the car engulfed in flames near some eucalyptus trees, about 30 yards from the freeway.
The fire spread to the trees and jumped the freeway, but crews managed to contain the fire to half an acre.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
