One person was killed, and another was injured in a crash involving a reckless driver on southbound Interstate 5 in Fresno County on Friday afternoon, March 27, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 2:11 p.m., when a vehicle reported to be driving recklessly was traveling southbound on the freeway. The vehicle’s license plate was linked to a stolen car out of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Officers responded and attempted to locate the vehicle, but before they could catch up, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned on the freeway shoulder south of Derrick Avenue.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was taken into custody, sustaining moderate to major injuries. The rear passenger was ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
