Two semi-trucks collided on Highway 166 east of Santa Maria late Monday night, April 13, 2026, leaving both drivers with minor injuries.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, emergency personnel responded to the crash around 9:48 p.m. in the area of Highway 166 and Pine Canyon, about 20 miles east of Santa Maria.
One truck was transporting fuel, and the other was carrying produce. The collision resulted in one truck’s cab being completely detached, while the other came to rest on the roadside.
The highway was closed overnight in both directions due to a small fuel leak, and the two drivers, who sustained minor injuries, were not transported to the hospital.
Caltrans District 5 reported that Highway 166 was fully closed near New Cuyama for several hours before reopening around 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
