A male pedestrian was killed following a hit-and-run collision in Jamul, San Diego County, on Monday night, April 15, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened at around 11:00 p.m. along State Route 94 near Old Campo Road.
Authorities said that an Audi sedan struck the pedestrian on the eastbound side of SR-94. The vehicle pulled over to seemingly check on the well-being of the victim, but the male driver got out of the car and fled the scene on foot. The driver left his female passenger behind.
Responders tried saving the victim’s life but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A helicopter was called to search for the hit-and-run driver while CHP officers questioned the passenger.
Additional information was not immediately available. Investigations are ongoing.
