[05-05-2026] San Diego County, CA – Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Box Truck in Escondido Alley

A 56-year-old man was killed after being struck by a box truck in Escondido on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

According to the Escondido Police Department, the incident occurred in the alley behind 618 North Broadway.

Authorities reported that the man may have been sitting or lying in the alley directly in front of the delivery truck, where the driver could not see him, before the vehicle pulled out from a loading bay.

The man was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

Officials stated that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
