[05-07-2025] Bicyclist Killed in Crash at Middlefield Road and Prior Lane in AthertonA bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle while riding in a designated bike lane in Atherton, San Mateo County, on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025.

According to the Atherton Police Department, the collision occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. at the intersection of Middlefield Road and Prior Lane.

Both the bicyclist and the vehicle were traveling southbound on Middlefield Road when the driver began making a right turn onto Prior Lane, striking the bicyclist during the turn.

Emergency responders transported the bicyclist to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
