Two people were killed and another was airlifted to the hospital following a head-on crash involving two vehicles in Mecca, Riverside County, on Thursday afternoon, May 8, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly after 12:00 p.m. on SR-111 near Avenue 68.
A blue Honda Civic was traveling southbound on SR-111 when it entered the northbound lane in an attempt to pass a slower vehicle. The Honda collided head-on with a blue Acura TL.
The impact disabled the Honda in the roadway and caused the Acura to overturn, coming to rest on the dirt shoulder.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Honda was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
