One driver was killed, and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle DUI collision near Rancho Murieta, Sacramento County, on Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 16 west of Murieta South Parkway.
Authorities stated that a man in an Acura RDX was driving west and approaching a Toyota Corolla that was traveling east. For unknown reasons, the Acura veered into the eastbound lane and crashed into the Toyota.
The Acura deflected off the other vehicle and then collided with a Toyota Tacoma that was traveling behind the Corolla. The driver of the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that two other drivers suffered from minor to moderate injuries, and drunk driving is believed to be a factor in the collision. Details regarding the identities of the involved parties were not immediately disclosed.
Further information regarding the incident has yet to be released by the authorities. Investigations are ongoing.
