Two women were injured following a single-vehicle rollover crash in Cottonwood, Shasta County, on Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. along northbound Interstate 5 near the Cottonwood Weigh Station.
CHP said that the single-vehicle collision involved a van towing a 30-foot travel trailer with a female driver and passenger. While traveling northbound on I-5, the van rolled over for some reason, injuring the two women onboard.
The driver reportedly suffered minor injuries, while the passenger sustained moderate injuries. Both of them were taken to the hospital for treatment. Neither of the two was identified immediately by the authorities.
The crashed van and trailer blocked a portion of the highway, prompting other motorists to go through Cottonwood Weigh Station to pass. Northbound I-5 was back to normal at about 2:00 p.m. after the authorities cleared up the scene.
CHP stated that animal control was also called onto the scene but did not specify why.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. There were no further details provided at this time.
