[05-20-2026] San Bernardino County, CA – Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Phelan

A woman was killed, and a man was injured following a hit-and-run crash involving two vehicles in Phelan, San Bernardino County, on Wednesday night, May 20, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported at around 10:05 p.m. at the intersection of Sheep Creek Road and Dos Palmas Road.

Authorities stated that a black Nissan Rogue had been traveling southbound on Sheep Creek Road when it collided with a white GMC 5500, which was reportedly stopped in the southbound lane near the intersection for reasons still under investigation.

Emergency crews arrived to find the Nissan overturned on the dirt shoulder south of the intersection. A male driver was located outside of the vehicle, while a female passenger remained trapped inside.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The male driver of the Nissan was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators reported that the GMC fled the scene after the crash. The vehicle was later located abandoned in the desert, but the driver was not found.

Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs are currently considered unknown factors in the collision.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
