[05-28-2025] Two Children Injured in Suspected DUI Crash Involving VTA Bus in GilroyTwo minors sustained moderate injuries after a suspected DUI driver crashed into a VTA bus in Gilroy on Wednesday night, May 28, 2025.

According to the Gilroy Police Department, the crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Monterey and Howson Streets. 

Authorities said the VTA bus was idling while picking up passengers when it was struck by a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Angel P. of Gilroy.

After the collision, the vehicle driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot, but bystanders intervened and detained him until law enforcement arrived.

Emergency responders transported two children who were passengers on the bus to a hospital with moderate injuries. The suspect was treated for unspecified injuries and later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
