A 55-year-old woman was critically injured after being struck by an SUV in Escondido early Friday morning, June 5, 2026.
According to the Escondido Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. at the intersection of North Broadway and Lincoln Parkway.
Authorities reported that the woman was standing on the sidewalk at the northeast corner of the intersection next to a shopping cart containing her belongings when a dark-colored SUV—described as a lifted Jeep Wrangler or Rubicon with large tires—left the roadway and struck her.
The SUV also knocked down a street sign and a palm tree before fleeing north on Broadway and then east on East Lincoln Avenue. The victim was transported to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Police are seeking the public’s help to locate the driver and vehicle. Investigators noted that the SUV likely sustained significant front-end damage.
