A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a pickup truck in Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2026.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers responded around 1:20 p.m. to the incident in the area of California Avenue and Union Avenue.
Authorities stated that a gray Chevrolet pickup, driven by a woman traveling eastbound on East California Avenue after turning from northbound Union Avenue, left the roadway for reasons under investigation and struck both the pedestrian and a nearby fence.
The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 4:15 p.m.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Police indicated that impairment did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
