A crash involving a Jeep and a big rig caused the closure of the I-238 transition to southbound I-880 in Hayward early Thursday morning, June 11, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 2:55 a.m. at the Hesperian Boulevard exit on northbound I-238.
Authorities reported debris scattered across the roadway, and the big rig involved leaked oil, creating additional hazards.
No injuries were reported in the crash. Due to debris and an oil spill, the CHP closed the southbound I-880 entrance from I-238 for cleanup, estimating it would reopen around noon. A SigAlert was issued, and detours were established for commuters.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
