[06-16-2024] Two People Killed Following Single-Vehicle Crash Near ModestoTwo people were killed following a single-vehicle crash near Modesto early Sunday morning, June 16, 2024.

According to the Modesto Police Department, the fatal traffic collision happened at the intersection of South Carpenter Road and West Hatch Road, just outside Modesto’s borders.

Initial reports suggested that a 2008 Honda Accord carrying two people, a driver and a passenger, was going north on South Carpenter Road. For some reason, the vehicle collided with an island and signal light pole at the southeast corner of the roadway’s intersection with West Hatch Road.

The crash resulted in major damage to the Honda and caused fatal injuries to both of its occupants. The driver and the passenger, whose names, ages, and genders were not immediately known, were declared dead at the scene.

MPD is still investigating the cause of the accident. It is still unclear if distracted driving, speeding, or driver impairment played a role in the fatal incident.
