A street sweeper driver was killed after crashing into a parked big rig on the Highway 99 off-ramp to Lathrop Road in Manteca on Tuesday morning, June 30, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:27 a.m. A big rig was parked on the right shoulder outside of the traffic lanes when the street sweeper, traveling at approximately 40 mph, struck it from behind for unknown reasons.
CHP reported that the street sweeper driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and suffered critical injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital but were later pronounced dead.
A passenger in the big rig was unharmed. Authorities said drugs or alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
