[07-01-2024] Kern County, CA – Scooter Rider Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle on Ridgecrest Boulevard

A scooter rider was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Ridgecrest early Monday morning, July 1, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 12:47 a.m. on Ridgecrest Boulevard west of Mahan Street. 

Initial investigation showed that a 2012 Mazda 6, driven by a 30-year-old Inyokern man, was heading eastbound on Ridgecrest Boulevard, approaching the scooter rider. The victim, identified only as a woman, was operating her electric scooter when she was struck from behind by the Mazda. 

Authorities stated that the victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver stopped the car and called the authorities to report the crash. 

It is unknown what caused the collision, but drugs and alcohol were ruled out as factors in the incident. 

No further information was released.
