[07-08-2024] Three People Hospitalized Following Two-Vehicle Rear-End Collision Along I-8 in El CajonThree people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle rear-end collision in El Cajon on Monday night, July 8, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the freeway crash happened just before 11:00 p.m. along Interstate 8 near Mollison Avenue.

Preliminary reports suggested that one vehicle rear-ended the other, causing one of them to lose control. That car then reportedly flew off the freeway and down a slope before crashing upside down into a nearby home’s backyard in Ednabelle Court.

All three occupants of the overturned car were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment after sustaining moderate-to-severe injuries. It was later confirmed that everyone was expected to survive and that the injuries sustained were non-life threatening. None of them were publicly identified yet.

The occupants of the other vehicle involved were said to be uninjured. There were also people on the property where the crashed car ended up, but CHP confirmed that no one from the home was hurt.

The cause of the accident is believed to be speeding. Authorities have since ruled out drugs or alcohol as possible factors.

CHP blocked off the on-ramp from Mollison Avenue to eastbound I-8 as a precaution while they investigated and cleared the scene.

An investigation is underway. Additional information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
