[07-13-2024] One Person Killed, Another Hospitalized After Vehicle Crashed into Building in OceansideOne person was killed, while another was hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into a building in Oceanside on Saturday morning, July 13, 2024.

According to the Oceanside Police Department, the fatal single-vehicle accident happened at about 10:00 a.m. around the 3800 block of Plaza Drive, near State Route 78.

An initial investigation suggested that a driver of an unspecified vehicle exited SR-78 when, for some reason, they lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a building along Plaza Drive.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found one person dead inside the crashed vehicle and another with serious injuries. It is not immediately known whether it was the driver or a passenger who had died. Meanwhile, the surviving victim of the collision was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Neither of the two involved individuals has been publicly identified yet, and the hospitalized victim’s current condition is also undisclosed.

OPD said that a homeless encampment was seen near the crash site. Currently, there are no reports of any injuries from said encampment.

The official cause of the collision is still under investigation. It is not presently known if alcohol, drugs, or speeding played a role in it.

No further details were immediately available. Police work is underway.
