A 21-year-old man was killed and another person injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 87 in San Jose late Sunday night, July 13, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway, just south of Taylor Street.
Officials reported that a 2020 Mercedes struck the right rear of a 2013 Honda Civic in the number three lane. The impact caused the Honda to veer out of control and crash into the center concrete divider.
After the collision, the Mercedes veered off the right-hand side of the road, hit a concrete pillar, and caught fire. A passenger in the Mercedes escaped with minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 21-year-old man from Cupertino, was unable to exit the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
Authorities have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
