[07-14-2026] Santa Clara County, CA – Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Tesla on Capitol Expressway in San Jose

A pedestrian was killed, and three people in a car were taken to a hospital following a crash in San Jose on Tuesday night, July 14, 2026.

According to San Jose Police, the incident occurred just before 9 p.m. near the intersection of Capitol Expressway and Copperfield Drive.

Authorities said a man driving a Tesla sedan eastbound on Capitol Expressway struck a pedestrian who was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Tesla driver and two juvenile passengers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver remained cooperative with investigators.

The San Jose Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
