[07-15-2024] Contra Costa County, CA – 16-Year-Old Boy Killed, Another Person Injured Following Two-Vehicle DUI Collision in Richmond

A 16-year-old boy was killed, while another person was injured following a two-vehicle DUI collision in Richmond early Monday morning, July 15, 2024.

According to the Richmond Police Department, the deadly crash happened just after midnight, 12:05 a.m., on Ohio Avenue near South 20th Street.

It is believed that the teenager was backing out of his driveway when his vehicle was struck by a speeding vehicle traveling eastbound along Ohio Avenue. The impact of the crash reportedly left both drivers trapped inside the wreckage of their respective vehicles.

Upon arrival, responders extricated both drivers and administered first aid. They were then transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The teenager, later identified as Ricardo F., succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. 

The driver of the speeding vehicle, only described as a 30-year-old man, was arrested after being released from the hospital. Police said that the man was put under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and vehicular manslaughter.

Additional information was not immediately available. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
