A 46-year-old man was killed following a pedestrian vs. vehicle hit-and-run collision in Newport Beach on Tuesday night, July 16, 2024.
According to the Newport Beach Police Department, the fatal incident happened just before 9:40 p.m. at Jamboree Road and Sea Vista Drive.
NBPD stated that a silver Toyota Camry driven by a 30-year-old Santa Ana man, Jesus B., struck a pedestrian and allegedly kept driving without rendering help or calling the authorities. Officers reportedly caught up to him at the intersection of Jamboree Road and Newport Beach Driver, where he was arrested.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the collision. The deceased victim was later identified by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department as 46-year-old Roman M., also from Santa Ana.
Police said that Jesus B. was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. He has since bailed out at an unspecified amount.
No further information was immediately available.
