A family of six was injured after a chain-reaction crash sent their vehicle off the roadway and into a canal in Sutter County on Thursday evening, July 23, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. near West Riego Road and Pacific Avenue.
Authorities said a Honda Odyssey traveling eastbound on Riego Road sideswiped a westbound semi-truck. Following the initial impact, the Honda lost control, crossed into the westbound lanes, and collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna carrying a family of six.
The impact forced the Toyota off the roadway and into a nearby canal. The Toyota driver, the father of the family, suffered major injuries, while the other occupants, including children, sustained minor injuries.
The Honda Odyssey driver was also injured, though the extent of those injuries was not released. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
