One person was killed in a head-on collision in Sonora on Thursday afternoon, July 30, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 1:23 p.m. on Highway 108 at Lower Mono Way.
Authorities were initially alerted to the collision via an iPhone crash-detection notification, and dispatchers later upgraded the incident to a traffic collision requiring an emergency medical response.
Emergency personnel from the California Highway Patrol, CAL FIRE, emergency medical services, and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
One person was killed, and authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
