According to the California Highway Patrol, the traffic incident happened at about 3:25 p.m. on Highway 1 at Potero Road.

The crash involved a white sedan, a white Chevrolet, and an unspecified third vehicle. CHP said that one vehicle (the sedan or the Chevy) was heading north while the other was traveling south when it crashed head-on. The third vehicle is said to have been involved in some capacity, but officials did not disclose how.

Officials said that three people were injured in the accident. Two people have suffered moderate injuries, while one person sustained major injuries. Their identities and current statuses were not immediately available.

CHP later stated that one of the drivers involved may have been driving under the influence at the time of the collision.
