A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in Bakersfield early Sunday morning, August 3, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were called to the intersection of Mount Vernon Avenue and Oregon Street at approximately 1:46 a.m. for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, they found that the driver of the involved white pickup truck had fled the scene before officers arrived.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was walking southbound on Mount Vernon Avenue in the number two lane, outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver of the pickup truck was traveling southbound in the same lane and struck the pedestrian at an unknown speed. The woman suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck is still unidentified, and authorities are investigating whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
