A man was arrested for a hit-and-run after he struck a pedestrian on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz on Monday evening, August 4, 2025.
According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, officers responded to the scene at around 8:50 p.m. following reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at the intersection of Highway 1 and River Street.
Authorities determined that a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 1 hit a 42-year-old pedestrian who was crossing in a marked crosswalk.
The pedestrian sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment.
The suspect, identified as Arturo G., 32, fled the scene. Police, with the help of witnesses, evidence, and Automatic License Plate Readers, located and apprehended Arturo the following day at his home in Watsonville.
Arturo was arrested and booked on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.
Authorities continue their investigation into the crash.
