[08-08-2025] Two Killed, Two Injured in Solo-Vehicle Crash on Highway 99 in BakersfieldTwo people were killed and two others were injured in a solo-vehicle crash in Bakersfield late Friday night, August 8, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 11 p.m. on southbound Highway 99 near the South Union Avenue overcrossing.

Authorities said a 20-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet at a high rate of speed when the vehicle veered onto the west shoulder and struck a metal guardrail. The car then hit the South Union Avenue overcrossing before coming to rest on the west shoulder, blocking the number three lane.

CHP reported that a passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Both the driver and the ejected passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two additional passengers sustained severe injuries and were transported to a hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
