A 58-year-old bicyclist from Gonzales was killed in a collision involving a semi-truck in Monterey County on Saturday afternoon, August 15, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Esperanza Road and Old Stage Road.
CHP said a 61-year-old Yuma, Arizona, man was driving a green Kenworth eastbound on Esperanza Road and approaching Old Stage Road. At the same time, the bicyclist was traveling on Old Stage Road near the intersection.
Authorities said the Kenworth made a right turn onto Old Stage Road and collided with the bicycle.
The 58-year-old bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
CHP said investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
