One person was killed, and two others were injured after a fiery multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Sacramento on Monday afternoon, August 19, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 80, east of Interstate 5.
Authorities stated that a pickup driver failed to notice stopped traffic ahead and collided with a Toyota Tacoma, sparking a chain reaction that engulfed three vehicles in flames.
Officers from the CHP and Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals suffered moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities do not suspect DUI as a factor in the crash. There is no additional information immediately available.
