A man in his 70s sustained fatal injuries after a hit-and-run crash on 98th Avenue in East Oakland on Thursday night, August 29, 2024.
According to Oakland police, the collision occurred around 9:33 p.m. at the intersection of 98th and Bancroft Avenues.
Witnesses reported that the man was walking in and out of traffic when a silver two-door hatchback vehicle, possibly a Honda, struck him. The impact threw the man approximately 50 feet into the intersection. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead from major head injuries.
The vehicle involved continued driving southbound on 98th Avenue, fleeing the scene. A detailed description of the driver has not been released.
Police are investigating the incident and have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol were involved.
