A 60-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash involving a truck on State Route 99 north of Chico early Monday morning, August 31, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 3:18 a.m. north of Broyles Road.
CHP said the man was driving a 2019 Nissan Altima northbound when, for reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2017 Kenworth truck tractor driven by 54-year-old Jose L. of Anderson.
The Altima driver was trapped in the driver’s seat following the collision. Fire crews extricated him, and emergency personnel transported him to Enloe Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 5:00 a.m. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
The investigation remains ongoing.
