One person was killed, and another was injured after a car crash sent two vehicles over a cliff below San Francisco’s historic Cliff House on Tuesday afternoon, September 3, 2024.
According to the San Francisco Fire Department, a compact SUV collided with a parked Tesla, sending both vehicles over the cliff.
The compact SUV, driven by 56-year-old Allen W. of San Francisco, crashed into the former restaurant and came to rest at a set of stairs near the lower deck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second vehicle, a Tesla, went through a fence and stopped on a hill near the Cliff House. Tesla’s driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
San Francisco police responded to the crash at 4:39 p.m. Chief Bill Scott confirmed that the Tesla had been parked when the SUV veered into it, causing the collision that led both vehicles off the cliff.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
