[09-22-2026] Riverside County, CA – E-Scooter Rider Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Collision Involving Vehicle in Hemet

One electric scooter rider was killed, and another was seriously injured in a collision with a vehicle in Hemet on Tuesday morning, September 22, 2026.

According to the Hemet Police Department, the crash occurred at around 6:55 a.m. in the area of Palm and Commonwealth avenues.

Officers arrived and found two scooter riders unresponsive in the roadway. Both were transported to a hospital, where one later died. The other rider sustained serious injuries.

Police said witnesses reported that the driver left the scene following the collision. The driver later returned and was arrested. Authorities identified him as Mason K., a 31-year-old Fontana resident.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of murder and also faces potential charges of hit-and-run causing death and causing great bodily injury while driving under the influence. He had not been formally charged as of Wednesday.

Police said both the vehicle and scooter were traveling on Palm Avenue, but the precise circumstances of the collision remained under investigation.
