A man was killed in a head-on collision with a dump truck on Highway 165 at Salt Slough in Merced County on Friday morning, October 11, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:00 a.m. when the driver of a red Honda traveling north attempted to pass another vehicle on a curve, colliding head-on with a southbound dump truck.
The Honda caught fire, and the driver died at the scene; their identity has not yet been released. The dump truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
