[10-16-2024] Motorcyclist Suffers Serious Injuries After Collision with Truck at Hillcrest IntersectionA motorcyclist suffered serious injuries following a traffic accident at a busy intersection in Hillcrest, San Diego, on Wednesday afternoon, October 16, 2024.

The collision occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. when the driver of a black 2016 GMC Sierra truck, a 48-year-old man, was traveling westbound on the 300 block of Washington Street, according to the San Diego Police Department.

As the driver attempted to turn left onto 3rd Avenue, a 26-year-old man on a 2010 Aprilia RSV4 sport motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Washington Street. Both the truck and the motorcycle had a green traffic light when the truck turned left onto southbound 3rd Avenue, and the motorcyclist entered the intersection while passing vehicles along the right shoulder.

The motorcycle collided with the truck in a broadside impact, resulting in the rider sustaining a skull fracture and a brain bleed. Emergency responders provided immediate medical attention at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that DUI was not a factor, and the investigation is ongoing.
