A bicyclist died after being struck by a driver on Union Avenue south of Fairview Road in Bakersfield early Saturday morning, October 25, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched around 3:42 a.m. to the scene of the crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a man was riding his bicycle southbound on Union Avenue, within the number two lane, when a 32-year-old woman driving a 2017 gray Nissan Altima, also traveling southbound in the same lane, struck him.
The driver of the Nissan, traveling at about 45 to 50 miles per hour, took evasive action when she suddenly noticed the bicyclist. Despite her efforts, the driver was unable to avoid the collision and struck the bicyclist from behind. The bicyclist sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan immediately stopped near the scene and cooperated with the investigation. CHP stated that the use of alcohol or drugs in the crash is still under investigation.
