A head-on collision occurred in Petaluma, killing a passenger and seriously injuring the other driver early Sunday morning, October 26, 2025
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. when the driver of a Ford Mustang, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs, attempted to illegally pass a Toyota Highlander while traveling southbound on Lakeville Highway, just south of Old Lakeville Road No. 3.
The Ford Mustang collided with a northbound Honda HR-V, causing the Toyota to spin off the roadway.
The Honda passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Six people in the Toyota were uninjured, while the driver of the Ford Mustang also sustained major injuries.
